Kyrie Shelties
Welcome to Kyrie Shelties!

I was still in high school, a horse crazy teenager, when I discovered shelties. I boarded my horse about 10 miles from my family home and drove past a yard full of fuzzy little dogs on my way to and fro. One day I was riding my horse past and stopped by. The lovely lady who came out to chat was Bev Peterson, and she and her husband Vern were Merri Lon Shelties. She hired me on the spot as kennel help and it wasn't long before I was traveling to the shows with them. I was hooked to a life-long addiction. Shelties get into your heart and soul. There were years here and there when I couldn't have litters or go to shows, but I always had a sheltie and I always had the fire to learn and to try to create the best sheltie possible.

Shelties are an exceptionally easy breed to love- they are beautiful, smart, happy, biddable creatures. Shelties are extremely difficult to breed as an AKC show breeder that strives to adhere to the standard as well as keep up with health testing and producing stable, happy temperaments. Size, bad bites, lance canines, color, lack of virtue, slow maturity, too fast maturity, not passing a health test, producing a health issue, not liking to show are all issues that eventually pop up when you breed Shelties. Some people starting in shelties either switch to other, easier breeds, or quit altogether. I love this breed, and I love to work together with others to preserve and promote these amazing little dogs.
